What is the Purpose of Daily Devotions?
In our human relationships, we become better partners when we spend time with those we love. The only way to really get to know each other is to experience life together and spend time in prayers together. There is protection for our relationships when we secure them with quality time.
The same is true for our relationship with God. We are able to know Him more – His promises, love, grace, forgiveness – when we spend time every day on a daily devotional for women that is separate from group Bible studies. Intimate, quiet, personal, and one-on-one time with God helps us grow in our faith and love for Him. It can seem like a simple women’s daily devotional, but what it is truly is an opportunity for God to speak to you and for you to listen, to be guided accordingly as you seek His ultimate will in your life.
It doesn’t even have to be intense 1 hour-long sessions every day, because God can meet you where you are. Even spending 10 minutes on a daily devotional for women can change you deeply, as long as it’s focused solely on Him alone. God can do so much, and He can meet you right where you are physically, mentally, and emotionally. Make it a habit, and you’ll see that joy will overflow, and the effect is nothing but positive – in your life and in the lives of those you affect every day.
How Do You Read a Devotional?
The best way to read a devotional is to read it with an open heart and mind. Whatever material you choose, or whatever Bible reading plan you may have, just make sure you always start off with a prayer for the Holy Spirit to speak to you. Ask for discernment and humility, that you may be able to read and understand what God’s word is for you on that day, even if it hurts or is a tough pill to swallow.
Where Should I Start My Daily Devotions?
Daily devotionals is truly a personal thing, and each person has his or her own approach. But there are a few things that help me personally to get in touch with God on a level that really moves me.
- Choose your material and a reading plan. Whether it’s a daily devotional for women app on your gadget, a book that you like, or a reading plan of a chapter a day of the Bible. Either way, God will find a way to speak to you, no matter what your material is.
- Find a quiet spot for contemplation. It’s important that you are in a space that is free from distractions and interruptions.
- Dedicate a time of the day and how much time you can spend just to read and pray. Whether it’s 10 minutes or 30, see what works with your daily schedule and commit that chunk of time each day. Allow yourself that time to simply spend it in the quiet of God’s presence.
- Bring a pen and notebook. There’s no need to take comprehensive notes- you’re not being graded. But when something really jumps out at you, or if there’s something that you want to explore more when you have more time, write it down. That way, you can always go back to it and ask the Lord to speak to you more on the subject.
A Daily Devotional for 5 Days
Day 1: Never Alone
“and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
In this chapter, Jesus had risen from the dead and was giving instructions to the disciples. In this verse, he commands them to continue His ministry by expanding His kingdom. Some of the disciples were experiencing doubt, but He allays their fears by telling them that He will be with them “to the very end of the age”.
This promise extends to us even to this day. He may have left the physical earth, but in His place He left the Holy Spirit, to be with us wherever we may be and whatever we may be going through. There is nothing that can separate us from Him, until the end of days.
Doubt may come into our lives every now and then, but we shouldn’t let it discourage us. Doubt is an opportunity for us to find new strength in the only One we call our savior.
Day 2: Be Expectant
“Look at the nations and watch— and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.”
When we are walking in the will of the Lord, we must know and understand that we are walking in victory. Now, it may not always go according to our plan – but that’s a good thing! Because I can assure you that God’s plan is so much better. Think of the most amazing thing that could happen in your life. God’s plans can and will top that – and it will be in a way that you never could have imagined. When you can’t seem to see or understand the next page in your life, don’t forget that God is the one writing the book.
Day 3: For the Good
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Living in God’s will is such a beautiful thing, and choosing to follow Him is a life that is beyond imagining. However, it is not going to be a life without hardship. For as long as we are in this world, we will always face trials, and sometimes we will be afraid. But here is the good news – anything and everything that happens in your life, whether positive or painful, God will use for your good. We never escape His notice, and His purpose will always override the hardships that we face. So take heart, and remember that when you love Jesus and live for Him, then you can rest in the assurance of His purpose.
Day 4: I Am His
“But now, thus says the Lord, your Creator, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel, ‘Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!’”
We do not belong to this world, and that means we do not need its approval. The only validation you need as a Christian woman is the promise from God that you belong to Him. He created every single fiber of your being, lovingly and purposefully. He owns your past and can redeem it. He owns your future and that is the best security you can have. You are His, and always will be.
Day 5: Certainty In the Stillness
“He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
This world is obsessed with “productivity”, or what some would call “hustle”. There is an expectation that your life’s value is equivalent to its usefulness or contribution to the world. This kind of mindset can be devastating, especially for our younger people’s faith. Value is now equated with activity. This can cause anxiety, depression, a false sense of self-worth. But Psalm 46:10 tells us to do the exact opposite of hurried productivity. It tells us that amidst the flurry and the buzz, we find God in the stillness and quiet moments.
